DAY 1: This morning you will depart your hometown and travel (bus/fly) to Charleston, South Carolina. You will be met by your
tour leader and guide who will take you on a sightseeing tour. Some of the sights you may see include the historic district, Old
City Market, Ashley River, Battery Park and Rainbow Row. After dinner you will again meet your guide for a walking tour through
Charleston’s most haunted sites.
DAY 2: This morning you will have breakfast and then set off to the South Carolina Aquarium. You can participate in interactive
exhibits and programs, and view the loggerhead turtles, stingrays, sharks, otters, moray eels, and much more. After lunch you
may have an opportunity to tour the Hunley Submarine, the first submarine to engage and sink an enemy ship. The Hunley Submarine
is only available for tours on Saturday or Sunday because scientists are still working on the reasoning behind her sinking.
DAY 3: Today’s highlights include a visit to Patriot’s Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Charleston Harbour. This site is one of the
largest naval and maritime museums in the world. The centrepiece of the museum holds a celebrated World War II aircraft carrier,
the USS Yorktown. While on board the USS Yorktown, take a moment to visit the Medal of Honor Museum, which displays stories
of remarkable brave men like Audie Murphy. The museum houses other exhibits such as military aircraft and weaponry. If
available, your group may be able to reserve lunch in the USS Yorktown’s Mess Hall. Later in the afternoon you will have some
leisure time to walk Folly Beach and browse the Pier Area.
DAY 4: Your final day in Charleston will begin at the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Centre. At the visitor centre you may browse the
exhibits which tell the story of how the Civil War erupted at Fort Sumter. During the 30-minute cruise through the Charleston harbour
you will learn about points of historic interest and significance. Once at the fort, you will have approximately one hour to
tour the facility. The exhibits at the fort will tell a story of the construction of the fort and island, the
events leading up to the April 12-13, 1861 battle and the bombardment by artillery later in the war. Today you will depart in the
afternoon for your trip home, taking with you unforgettable memories of your incredible journey.
