| Day 1
- Late afternoon arrival to Williamsburg area
with overnight.
Day 2 - Following breakfast, a morning
departure is scheduled to begin our memorable
sightseeing. Our entire day is devoted to Williamsburg.
This picturesque city is one of the places where
modern America began and many great ideas of our
republic were written into law. Our guided visit
will take us to such places as the "Governor's
Palace", the Public Gaol (old-time jail),
wigmaker (barbershop), and post office. Known
to such great patriots as George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson, and Patrick Henry, Williamsburg will
certainly prove to be a highlight of our American
History lesson. Lunch will be served at a local
restaurant. We will continue our sightseeing with
a visit to Carter's Grove Plantation. Built in
1750, a 1929 renovation led to the mansion's designation
as "the most beautiful house in America." The
grounds at Carter's Grove contain a representation
of Wolstenholme Towne (a 17th-century community
destroyed by an Indian attack in 1622 and lost
beneath the ground until archeologists discovered
it in the 1970's), 18th-century agriculture area,
slave quarter, and archaeology museum. Dinner
tonight is included and will be served in a local
restaurant. Our evening continues with a walking
tour and candlelight visit of Colonial Williamsburg.
Day 3 - Following breakfast this
morning, we will continue our adventure with a
visit to Monticello, the former home of Thomas
Jefferson. Unlike so many homes of the great,
Monticello has a lived-in quality that endears
it to ordinary mortals. Inspired by 16th century
Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Pallidio,
Monticello sits atop a small mountain; thus its
name. There are also several outbuildings to visit,
including a kitchen and wine cellar. Lunch and
dinner will be served locally. This evening, we
will transfer to the airport for our return flight
back home, taking with us fond memories of an
incredible journey.
